Will the Philippines new President live to Inauguration Day

By Faye Higbee

The Philippines President-elect, Rodrigo Duterte, takes office on June 30. If he lives that long. After he issued a statement telling his citizens to kill drug dealers, drug lords in the nation have placed a bounty on his head…that would be a $1 million dollar bounty.

Plotting from behind bars

RT reported,

“The incoming police chief Ronald Dela Rosa said he had received a tip-off from a source saying that raising the reward from 10 million pesos ($216,000) to 50 million pesos ($1,083,845) was the main subject of a meeting between drug lords currently behind bars at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa, Philippines.”

Wait, you ask, how could they have a meeting while in prison? Easy. It’s done all the time. In the exercise yard. At dinner time. In the communal showers. And sometime the plots actually hatch. Particularly with drug lords.

Decisions, decisions

If prisoners meet and decide to do something, they usually encode their ideas so prison officials don’t catch them. And these guys had a mole at the meeting, so Dela Rosa found out about it relatively soon.

But in NBP prison, drug lords often live like kings, according to the South China Morning Post.

Asked how he was going to handle the situation, Dela Rosa reportedly said,

“They should be taken out of the NBP horizontally.”

That may be true. The problem with this plot is that prison drug lords can get just about anything out of the walls of the facility. They pass messages with impunity, and the victims on the outside may never know what happened. In this case, there is hope that Duterte will be safe. Maybe.

You never know whether the message has already been passed – to a man getting out of prison, to a visitor, to a guard who has been turned….

These are the remarks that put him in the crosshairs of the drug lords:

“If they [criminals] can’t be talked into changing, let’s kill them…If they are there in your neighborhood, feel free to call us, the police or do it yourself if you have the gun. You have my support…If he fights and fights to the death, you can kill him…

“I will give you a medal. If you are involved in drugs, I will kill you. You son of a whore, I will really kill you.” Rodrigo Duterte
