West Point Accident Kills 1, Injures 22

New York: A West Point accident killed one cadet and injured 22 others on Thursday morning at around 6:45 a.m.. Twenty cadets were injured, plus two active duty US Army soldiers who were driving, when the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle carrying the cadets overturned near the Camp Natural Bridge training site just off Route 293.

The armored personnel carrier is a 5 ton vehicle. Numerous injuries resulted when it flipped over.

The Camp Natural Bridge site is in Highland Mill, New York, about at 45 minute drive from New York City.

The New York State Police assisted West Point officials in the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Lt General Darryl Williams, the West Point Commander, addressed the press in a short conference, where he stated that the troop carrier was on its way to the “Land Navigation Course” when it overturned. The LNC is part of their regular training as cadets.

The Lt General thanked all of the first responders and medical personnel who assisted at the accident scene. The General stated that the injuries of the others are not life-threatening. All of the injured were taken to area hospitals.

At this time, officials are working to notify next of kin to the deceased cadet. His name will be released 24 hours after they have been notified.
