Prior to the 2020 election, it was bandied about in Congress as to whether or not Facebook should be broken up or at least stopped from its censorship of Conservative voices. A Facebook insider spoke to Project Veritas about the unchecked power of companies like Facebook and Google, and suggested that they “must be stopped.”
Unchecked power over 2 Billion people
“No king in the history of the world has been the ruler of two billion people, but Mark Zuckerberg is — and he’s 36. That’s too much for a 36-year-old. You should not have power over two billion people. I just think that’s wrong,” he said.
“He [Zuckerberg] owns a controlling stake in the company. So, you can’t do it the usual way that you do it in corporate, which is the board can just fire you, right? The board can’t do that to Zuck. The board can’t do that to Larry Page and Sergey Brin [Google] because they own too much of the company. They’re too powerful. So, these are not companies anymore. These are countries,” he said.
Thomas said that Facebook’s algorithms are subject to human biases and stressed the importance of fixing the company’s algorithms and AI [Artificial Intelligence] sooner rather than later.
“There’s always built-in [algorithmic] bias…Guess what? Human beings wrote that code,” he said.
Thomas stated that it only takes a very few portions of the algorithm to determine a given bias. For example, racists: where do they live, is it an all white area, what is their religious preference, etc. The algorithm then may determine that the person is racist just based on the mechanical logic. When AIs run the companies like Facebook and Google, you have the perfect setup for ordinary people to treated with unrelenting bias.
He made the statement that “it’s not like the AIs will kill us. They just won’t care.”
“AI [Artificial Intelligence] is essentially evolving to become like human intelligence. Then, it’s going to go beyond human intelligence and at that point, humans are expendable…If you ever went to a picnic — we would not spend one minute thinking about the ants that we stepped on the grass, right? From AI, we will become like those ants…So, I might be killing hundreds of ants when I walk in the park, I don’t know, and I don’t care. It’s not a thing that I care about. We will be like those ants,” he said.
It’s not just with the term racist, it’s everything we do or say that can be chosen by an AI to pre-judge the person.
Another issue he brought out was Zuckerberg’s passion for “health” – not just CRISPR, the genome project that can literally alter people’s DNA through manipulation, but other even more insidious projects that he declined to mention during the interview. The unchecked power that runs through massive amounts of money is far greater than that of countries – and Benny Thomas understands it, but he likes his job.
This is only a short excerpt from the longer conversations about the unchecked power of Big Tech.
Benny Thomas is just a cog in the larger jumble of wheels at Facebook. He is sounding a warning, but refuses to actually stand up for what is right in spite of his statements in these interviews. It has been a point of debate for decades over whether Artificial Intelligence will ever become a danger. Advocates love the idea that a machine can make life “better.” Critics are concerned. Our military uses the technology to help humans do more things faster. But, as with Facebook and Google, they can be weaponized. And they have been. What do you think?
