Trudeau’s Proposed Handgun Freeze Causes Guns to Fly Off the Shelves

The dictators who plan to ban guns are often the best gun salesmen. When Trudeau announced a handgun freeze and other gun control measures in all of Canada, it caused a spree of panic buying that has left many stores completely out of stock. The proposal still has to be passed by Parliament, but the legal gun owners of Canada are snapping up every handgun they can get their hands on before it does.

Several gun stores in British Columbia province saw lines out the door within hours of the liberal leader’s declaration on Monday (May 30). Other shops across Canada said that they sold out within days.

“Sales have been brisk,” said Jen Lavigne, co-owner of That Hunting Store in a strip mall on the outskirts of the capital Ottawa, nestled between a barbershop, a Chinese buffet restaurant and a conservative lawmaker’s constituency office.

“We sold 100 handguns, or almost our entire stock, in the last three days, since the prime minister announced the freeze,” she said, showing off her nearly empty handgun cabinet.

At DoubleTap Sports in Toronto, a similar scene unfolded. Owner Josko Kovic said that the government announcement “created a panic, and people are now rushing out to buy handguns”.

“Almost all stores are sold out, including me,” he said.

Gun store owners are not happy with the Prime Minister’s freeze on handguns or his demand that rifles only be allowed magazines of 5 rounds. Canada has restrictive laws on guns anyway – with around 1 million gun owners for 38 million people, they’re nowhere near the amount of gun owners that are in the US. They must have a restricted firearms permit to purchase a gun in the first place, a special permit to transport the weapons, and every weapon must be in a secured case. It can take months for them to obtain a license. About the only place firing a gun is allowed is a shooting range.

None of that has helped with the gang crime in big cities, and it never will. Criminals do not obey laws. Citizens expect the ban to go into effect this fall.

“This measure is only going to hurt legal gun owners. It’s not going to reduce any of the crime because the bad guys don’t follow the rules.”

Too bad dictator Trudeau and his cronies have no plans to listen to reason.
