Capitol Police arrested seven members of the Stephen Colbert Late night TV show’s production staff when they were found roaming unescorted inside the Longworth Office Building after hours. It happened as the Jan 6 committee had been meeting and on the 50th anniversary of the Watergate Break-in. The group reportdly interviewed a few Congressional members such as Adam Schiff, but left the building when requested by Capitol Police. A criminal investigtion has begun. It must be an insurrection!

“On June 16, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) received a call for a disturbance in the Longworth House Office Building.  Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without Congressional ID, in a sixth-floor hallway.  The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be a part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day. They were charged with Unlawful Entry.  This is an active criminal investigation, and may result in additional criminal charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney.”

Capitol Police Statement

The group was directed to leave earlier in the day because they did not have proper press credentials. They attempted to get those credentials from the House Radio/TV Gallery, but the request was denied because the group was not considered “news.” (Fox) To be in the Jan 6 hearing room, a special pass ‘overlay’ is also required. So they went about doing shoots for “standup routines.” Aides to Reps Adam Schiff and Jake Auchincloss reportedly gave them “permission” to be in the Longworth office building. Obviously, no one told the Capitol Police.

Was this a “reconnaisance” tour by left wing members of Colbert’s staff? Democrats smeared Rep Loudermilk for taking a small group of constituents (and children) through the building two days before Jan 6 by calling it a “reconnaisance tour.” Capitol Police stated there was nothing amiss, but Democrats continue to play it up as though it was part of the Jan 6 riot. This “insurrection” by Colbert’s staffers was done for several hours after no one was supposed to be in the building. ‘We need a committee to investigate this severe breach of democracy. And the FBI should visit the families of each and every one of these staffers – with battering rams, preferably. Colbert is likely behind this insurrection, so let’s make an example of him.’

CBS responded to the arrests with this statement:

“On Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was on-site at the Capitol with a production team to record interviews for a comedy segment on behalf of ‘The Late Show.’ Their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed. After leaving the members’ offices on their last interview of the day, the production team stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained by Capitol Police.”

An aide to Auchincloss reportedly let them back into the building at around 4 p.m., where they wandered around for hours. But being unescorted by a Congress member speaks volumes about the difference between what’s OK for Democrats versus what’s not OK for Republicans.
