Special Forces Invade Tampa! Mayor Kidnapped!

By Faye Higbee

Tampa, Florida – Elite troops expended hundreds of rounds of ammo in an attempt to rescue the Mayor of Tampa on May 25. Ok, not really. It was all an “exercise,” a demonstration of their precision and ability to work as a team.

Special Forces Industry Conference

Special Forces troops from over 80 nations descended on Tampa for  the annual Special Forces Industry Conference. This year they demonstrated a scenario in which the Mayor of Tampa was “captured by pirates” and held near the Tampa Convention Center. It took 4 days to plan, and less than 30 minutes to execute.

Special Forces are the cream of the crop, but generally don’t operate with an audience. This year’s program included Navy SEALs, Marine Raiders, and Green Berets, as well as special forces from numerous other nations. Many of the operators covered their faces, and few were allowed to speak with reporters, according to the Conservative Tribune.

Role Playing

Commandos dressed in black, red smoke grenades, the whole dramatic execution of the plan was done to the amazement of the crowds – most of whom had never seen such precision  military action.

“A lot of what we do is a bit secretive, we don’t really advertise much of what we do and there is a reason for it. I think … this is maybe a stark reminder that there are young men and women out there putting themselves at risk.” Lt Col Chris Robeshaw to the Washington Post

Thousands of spectators watched the whole thing go down from party boats, rooftops, and the patios of bars, as a narrator explained what was happening.

“This type of mission would be undertaken during the cover of darkness. The sniper overwatch team is equipped with high-powered rifles that can hit a target from more than a mile away.” Exercise narrator

The crowd gave the operators thunderous applause when the rescue of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn was accomplished. He even got to shoot blanks with one of the Riverine boat’s .50 cal machine guns on his way back to shore.

It was dramatic, but the real thing is incredibly dangerous.  I’m thankful the Special Forces troops are on the job…aren’t you?
