
Spc Bishop Evans has been identifed as the Texas National Guard member who went missing while attempting to save two migrants who appeared to be drowning in the Rio Grande on April 22. He removed his body armor prior to entering the water. His body was finally located on Monday in the River near Eagle Pass.

Officials believe that the migrants he was trying to save were actually drug smugglers.
Texas Rangers have determined that the two migrants a TX National Guard soldier tried to save before drowning in the Rio Grande were “involved in illicit transnational narcotics trafficking”, and are in federal custody. Soldier still missing, family notified.

SPC Bishop Evans
SPC Evans, 22, a field artilleryman from Arlington, Texas is assigned to A Battery, 4-133 Field Artillery Regiment in New Braunfels Texas, and joined the Texas Army National Guard in May 2019. He returned in the fall of 2020 from mobilization to Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait. During this mobilization, his dedication, talents, and tactical prowess led his leadership to regularly assign him to operations in Iraq in support of Special Operations Forces for short periods of time, while then rotating back into Kuwait.

Dive teams were forced to halt the search on Saturday as the current became too strong for the divers. According to Fox Reporter Bill Melugin, the current isn’t as strong in the morning hours. The search resumed on Sunday, with the addition of 3 airboats from Texas DPS, according to the release. His body was recovered on Monday morning.
