Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin seems to feel that the First amendment doesn’t apply to individuals. That’s right, she said that.
“Certainly the First Amendment says that in institutions of faith that there is absolute power to, you know, to observe deeply held religious beliefs. But I don’t think it extends far beyond that. . . . [I]n this context, they’re talking about expanding this far beyond our churches and synagogues to businesses and individuals across this country. I think there are clear limits that have been set in other contexts and we ought to abide by those in this new context across America.” Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisconsin
Stop right there. In numerous cases from the Supreme Court – over a couple hundred years of litigation – the 1st Amendment has been found to apply to individuals. But this issue is deeper than that and we best pay attention: States rights under the 10th amendment have been completely destroyed in favor of what she calls a “new context.”
“New context” – “old ideas”
A friend who was in college last semester revealed the mindset of liberal students who responded to their thoughts on the Constitution this way:
“I think there are plenty of other areas of the Constitution that need to be updated. The Freedom of Speech for instance, I feel is abused to easily now a days, with paparazzi, rag magazines, and social media…People’s thoughts are different now than they were 225 years ago, and for that reason, I feel also that we should have a say in the laws that make up our Constitution. Even if we personally won’t be around to see the new amendments, we can at least set up a more modern future for our children. “
Or this one
“No person should be bound by ideas of a past era, I believe the Constitution should be rewritten with updated laws to fit each generation. Each generation has new technologies, new concepts of justice, and new ways of committing crimes. These will all need to be dealt with in new ways and new laws.”
According to mediatrackers.org, Senator Baldwin has in the past stated that institutions should not be afforded the 1st Amendment, only individuals. Her position has fluttered in the breezes of liberal confusion. She is not only inconsistent, she is uninformed. Unfortunately, our nation right now is filled with college students who are in the same ignorant boat with Ms. Baldwin – and have not one iota of a clue what they are really advocating.
The bottom line is really about them doing their own thing and the rest of us having no freedoms whatsoever.
