NASCAR Outrage – When a Noose Wasn’t a Noose

By Faye Higbee

Talladega, Alabama – The Nascar outrage perpetrated by a “noose” found in garage #4, which was just assigned to Bubba Wallace a week ago, was completely unfounded. And it wasn’t a noose, it was rope tied with a knot that was used to close the garage door. Are people a tad bit over sensitive these days?

Mr. Wallace is a known Black Lives Matter supporter, and even drove a BLM car in the race on June 10. It was based on his recommendation that the Confederate Flag was banned from NASCAR property that same day.

The question is…was this a publicity stunt? Is either a Wallace team member or Bubba himself responsible for the NASCAR outrage? Or was everyone just looking for something to be upset about?

According to Yahoo Sports, the “noose” was found by a Wallace team member on Sunday. Bubba reportedly didn’t know about it until he was notified by the team member. Bubba Wallace is the only black NASCAR driver.

Yahoo Sports reported:

“On Monday, fifteen FBI special agents conducted numerous interviews regarding the situation at Talladega Superspeedway. After a thorough review of the facts and evidence surrounding the event, we have concluded that no federal crime was committed.

The FBI learned that garage number 4, where the noose was found, was assigned to Bubba Wallace last week. The investigation also revealed evidence, including authentic video confirmed by NASCAR, that the noose found in garage number 4 was in that garage as early as October 2019. Although the noose is now known to have been in garage number 4 in 2019, nobody could have known Mr. Wallace would be assigned to garage number 4 last week.

The decision not to pursue federal charges is proper after reviewing all available facts and all applicable federal laws. We offer our thanks to NASCAR, Mr. Wallace and everyone who cooperated with this investigation.”

No Hate Crime.  The rope was “fashioned into a “noose” – no the rope was tied with a knot, a  knot used for more things than hanging people, although it is illegal to display in states like Louisiana.

“The FBI has completed its investigation at Talladega Superspeedway and determined that Bubba Wallace was not the target of a hate crime. The FBI report concludes, and photographic evidence confirms, that the garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose had been positioned there since as early as last fall.” Nascar statement.

The jokes now follow, as NASCAR has some egg on their face for creating a big deal over a garage door opener that all drivers and crews would have known about. Notice that in November of 2019 the door pull was in place like all the others. The door pull was cut for evidence in June 2020.

NASCAR says it will continue to investigate why the rope looked like a noose. Figures. Keep the narrative going. Now all the crews will probably have to use a less effective knot.

A noose that wasn’t a noose that created a massive outpouring of NASCAR outrage. Help. America is a mess.
