Kingman, AZ – On Monday, Mohave County, Arizona passed a resolution declaring itself a Second Amendment Sanctuary. It joins numerous other counties across the West that have done the same thing.
So what does a Second Amendment Sanctuary really mean? The resolutions are not legally binding, but do serve as a warning to the rest of the state and federal government: try to take our guns here and we will stand against you.
“Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster spoke in support of the resolution Monday morning, assuring the board and members of the audience that he has, and would continue to uphold the rights of county residents.
“Myself and my staff swore an oath to defend the rights of people that were bestowed upon them by the U.S. Constitution and the Arizona Constitution,” Schuster said. “I’m an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment. There will always be a need to regulate the use of firearms for the safety and security of our communities – however, the rights of our citizens to carry firearms will, God willing, never be infringed … The day they outlaw guns is the day your sheriff becomes an outlaw.” Havasu News
We wrote previously that the city of Needles, California – which sits on the border of Arizona and California- already passed such a resolution.
The Mohave County vote came at the same time as the city of Tucson, which has been distinctly liberal, voted down the concept of becoming a “Sanctuary City for Illegal Immigrants.” Things are looking up in Arizona.
Hildy Angius, the Mohave county Board Chairwoman stated:
“It’s a statement by a government entity about something we feel strongly about. It’s not a law or an ordinance – it’s a resolution of support. We have the support of the Sheriff, and if it ever gets to the point where the courts would have to get involved because of gun laws implemented by the feds or the state, we would step up and fight them.”
It’s a start. As more and more counties west of the Mississippi River make their intent known, it would be a good thing if Democrats stopped their anti-gun ideas. We The People are armed, and we are tired of the left’s unconstitutional hatefest against us.
What we need to watch now is whether the rural areas in Virginia begin to pass such resolutions now that they’ve officially gone blue.
