Minneapolis Abolish Police Movement – Activists Want to Amend Their Charter

The Minneapolis abolish police movement is ramping up with a new proposal that has some financial backing by George Soros’ Open Society. The petition to amend the city police charter is backed by Yes 4 Minneapolis a local coalition of activists. The problem is that the underlying narrative that all police are “racist” is a total lie.

Yes 4 Minneapolis, a coalition of community groups, delivered dozens of boxes containing the 20,000 signatures to amend the Minneapolis charter to officials at City Hall. The coalition’s proposed amendment would replace the police department with a new Department of Public Safety and shift authority over the police from the mayor to the City Council.

The petition comes as the city of Minneapolis remains under pressure to overhaul policing after George Floyd’s fatal encounter with former Officer Derek Chauvin last May. Chauvin awaits sentencing after being convicted of murder and manslaughter charges, and three other officers involved in the arrest face trial this summer. A Justice Department probe into the department’s policing practices has compounded that pressure…

…Antonio Williams with The People’s Canvass said during a news conference that he had spoken with many Minneapolis residents who experienced brutality, injustice and indifference at the hands of the city’s police. Williams called the breadth of signatures a “screaming indictment on the old way” of policing…

The coalition is made up of more than 20 local organizations, including Reclaim the Block and the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota, among others. According to a campaign finance report, the group received $500,000 from the Open Society Policy Center, which has ties to billionaire George Soros.

The Minneapolis abolish police movement

Just after the George Floyd situation, the Minneapolis abolish police movement caught fire until the city council noticed that crime spiked and ran out of control through the city. The council slowed down, and even hired private security. Police were defunded and short-staffed, which is only going to get worse in this current environment. Only one large city, Sacramento, California, is bucking the defund the police narrative with a larger police budget.

The narrative that all police are “racist” was only fueled by the Derek Chauvin incident, but has been increasing for several years due to the media’s reporting of high profile shootings. It has reached a fever pitch in the United States. It’s not true. And it’s affecting the morale of every police officer in the country. Our nation’s law enforcement officers are leaving the service in droves in nearly all large cities. The ones that are left are tense. It affects every aspect of policing, including recruitment. That scenario is a serious one that affects how law enforcement performs everywhere.

Law enforcement are supposed to be our friends…members of our own communities, our neighbors, the sheepdogs who help us in times of need. And the vast majority of them are still that – something “activists” refuse to acknowledge. As local police come under intense scrutiny, some federal agencies are running amok with little accountability.

The following tweet is from Major Keith Dingle, the “operations commander at the Morehouse School of Medicine’s public safety office, in Atlanta. He often documents his experiences as an officer on his TikTok account, where he describes himself as both an “inspirational speaker” and “Christian Youth counselor” in his biography.” (Clash Daily) He expresses exactly what police officers are feeling all around the nation.

An incident in Los Angeles exemplifies the problem police are encountering. An officer approached a woman who appeared to be using her cell phone while driving. As he spoke to her she ranted about him being a “murderer,” and then proceeded to make racist remarks about his Hispanic ethnicity. The officer remained calm, but it’s an example of what they are encountering.

“You have one incident like George Floyd….but some people want to label the entire profession as if everyone was a Derek Chauvin. It shows you that bigotry, racism comes in all, colors and all ages — that’s proof of that right there. If you want to call all of the deputies murderers, unfortunately, you are doing the exact same thing you’re accusing other people of doing against your own kind.”
