May Day- Violent Protests in Seattle

A “peaceful morning” May Day march to raise awareness for labor issues quickly turning to a violent protest later in the day after an anti-capitalist group showed up. The violent protesters pelted police with rocks, bottles, Molotov cocktails, and damaged property. Five officers were hurt, and 9 people arrested.

Mayday Mayhem

Note: Seattle is known for unruly May Day marches. It’s why Seattle police geared up ahead of time for the event.

“It is unfortunate and deeply regrettable that in a city that goes to incredible lengths to respect First Amendment rights, there are some who disregard our values and engage in senseless acts of violence and property destruction. My thoughts are with the officers who were injured.” Seattle Mayor Ed Murray

Many of the protesters wore the masks we’ve seen the hacker/anarchist group “Anoymous” wear- Guy Fawkes masks. Anarchists, anti-capitalists with a vicious streak.
