September 28 —In Apple Valley, California, a man wearing a “fiendishly clever” disguise over his eyes bashed in the glass door of the Battery Mart, an auto-parts store, and went inside after hours to help himself to merchandise. Ok it really wasn’t so clever- it was a maxi-pad. The store’s surveillance camera captured the incident and the police captured the suspect.
“It wasn’t surprising, but yes, that is, in fact, that’s what he was trying to conceal his identity with, and he didn’t do a very good job.” Trish Hill, police spokeswoman
People in the Battery Mart dubbed him, “The Maxi-pad Bandit.”
The Einstein of criminals
Using a feminine napkin as a mask is…um…not very effective. The suspect turned out to be Gary Victor, 51. Apparently he thought wearing that maxi-pad on his face would disguise him well enough to keep from being arrested. Or something. It didn’t.
The surveillance video is extremely clear- it shows his face, his tattoo, his body build, hair color, facial features … and since he had gone to the store before his little burglary spree, people knew who he was. Brilliant, Einstein.
“We had a pretty good picture of his face cause he came to the store the first time and looked in the window without his Maxi Pad on. But when he came back and he had the maxi pad over his eyes I guess he thought it was going to take care of everything.” Mark Wedell, Battery Mart owner
Maybe he was high?
Police believe he was “high” on something. Yeah stupidity can make you high I guess. Victor has an extensive record. He was arrested on Tuesday morning after a search warrant was served at his residence. The merchandise from the burglary was recovered and returned to the Battery Mart.
According to the Victor Valley News,
Gary Victor was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center. Public court records show Victor is a convicted felon with an extensive history of run in’s with the law. He is currently being held on a $25,000 bail and is expected to appear in court on October 1, 2015.
Hey, give the guy a break. Maybe he was just being prepared in case of severe bleeding.
