LA County Deputies were to begin processing the house scene when it was safe after the fire. Though some outlets described the shooter as a “disgruntled employee” authorities did not say anything about the motive at this time.

Authorities initially were in search of a suspect in a white Toyota pickup. That search led to a home in the 2600 block of Bent Spur Drive in Acton, where a short time later a structure fire erupted.

The surviving firefighter is a Captain, 54, who was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia. He is in critical condition but stable after surgery. He is expected to survive. Initial reports said that he had “multiple gunshot wounds.”

When the suspect allegedly arrived at his home, he engaged the deputies and barricaded himself inside. When the house fire erupted, it appeared to be totally engulfed. A body was located in the pool at one time, and the Sheriff stated it appeared the LA County Firefighter was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot.
