Kansas City Air Show: The Sound of Freedom with USN Blue Angels and USAF Thunderbirds

Blue Angels-Thunderbirds Super Delta Formation

This year’s Kansas City Air Show had a special draw: both the US Navy Blue Angels and the US Air Force Thunderbirds. It’s rare for both precision flying teams to be at the same event. But July 3-4 found them both bringing the “sound of freedom.” And a special treat awaited attendees: their performance was the debut of the “Super Delta formation” with six F-16 Fighting Falcons and six F-18 Super Hornets.

The Kansas City Air Show was cancelled last year due to Covid. The event was held at New Century Air Center in KC. This year was the first time the two teams flew in the same air show to ‘dazzle’ the crowd. And that they did with their “Super Delta formation.” Due to a change in schedule, the Thunderbirds were able to join the Blue Angels.

Also at this year’s show the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team and the U.S. Marines AV-8B Harrier IIs were scheduled. The US Navy’s parachute team “Leap Frogs” was also there, and brought the US flag during the National Anthem. (KansasCity.com)

For two short days, approximately 40,000 Kansas City residents and guests got to experience “the sound of freedom” in an air show extravaganza that even included a local air club flying in formation called KC Flight .(They make their own planes).
