Goldsboro Home Intruder Shot Grandma, 12 Year Old Grandson Shot Him

By Faye Higbee

North Carolina – A Goldsboro home intruder shot Grandma Linda Ellis, 73, in the leg. Her 12 year old grandson shot him. There were two masked intruders, one didn’t make it, the other is on the loose.

The Goldsboro incident occurred on Saturday, Feb 13 at around 12:30 a.m. At around 1:00 a.m. police responded to the report of a shooting. Investigation revealed that two masked home intruders forced their way into a home and demanded money. Then one of them shot Linda Ellis in the leg while she was in the kitchen. Big mistake. Ellis’ 12 year old grandson retrieved a gun, torched off shots, hitting one of the men and forcing them to flee.

“They came in the house, I open the door, I open it, and they came in there… One guy had a gun. They just put me down on the ground… [She] was in the kitchen. I don’t know why they shot her…

The intruder just shot his grandma… He would have shot him too, he would’ve shot me too, he would’ve killed us all.”

Randolph Bunn, great-uncle of the 12 year old WTVD

One of them didn’t make it and was found outside in the intesection. He was transported to the hospital, but succumbed to his wounds. The other intruder is still at large. The deceased individual was identified as Khalil Herring, 19, from Goldsboro.

My phone was constantly ringing and ringing and ringing. I couldn’t believe she been shot because she’s a good person. Why would someone come into her house and do this? It’s got to stop.

Chiquita Coley, Ellis’ great-niece

Linda Ellis was taken to Wayne UNC Healthcare, and was expected to be released Monday. No charges are expected for the 12 year old, as it was an obvious case of self-defense. Police are still investigating, and looking for the second suspect.

For a young child to overcome his fears enough to shoot at a couple of intruders is a big deal. Good for him!
