Ex-Officer Who Shot Daunte Wright Charged with 2nd Degree Manslaughter

On Tuesday, the Brooklyn Center City Manager was fired, and the Police Chief, and officer who shot Daunte Wright resigned. Former officer Kim Potter has been charged with 2nd degree manslaughter which carries a potential sentence of 10 years in prison.

Wright was not an angel, but shouldn’t have been shot.

According to Hennepin County District Court documents obtained by Fox News, Wright was charged with first-degree aggravated robbery in a December 2019 incident in Osseso, Minn. He was released on $100,000 bail. His bail was revoked in July because he allegedly possessed a firearm and was not keeping in touch with his probation officer.

Guilty until proven innocent

Did Kim Potter deliberately kill Daunte Wright? Many liberals believe she’s “racist” and did it on purpose, including AOC, Ilhan Omar, the family’s attorney Ben Crump, and a whopping bunch of media figures. Rashida Tlaib says all police and prisons should be abolished for being inherently racist. (Bet even she wouldn’t want to live here if that should happen). They throw that word around like so many playing cards that have been shuffled one too many times.

Did Kim Potter know the difference between a taser and a real firearm? Undoubtedly she did. There is no question about that, as police officers are normally required to use both and qualify consistently with at least the real firearm. Did she get rattled and grab the wrong weapon? Since she was on the force for 26 years, her being “scared” or “rattled” over Daunte Wright’s attempt to leave is going to be hard to prove. The biggest issue here is that now the charged person has to prove their innocence – backwards from our legal system’s original intent.

Potter reportedly was training a new officer in the field Sunday at the time of the incident. She became president of the Brooklyn Center Police Officer’s Association in 2019. In her one-paragraph letter of resignation, Potter said, “I have loved every minute of being a police officer and serving this community to the best of my ability, but I believe it is in the best interest of the community, the department, and my fellow officers if I resign immediately.”

Law enforcement is a tough business. Whether it’s a 911 dispatcher who fails to send officers, or officers who make a mistake, the current climate is not favorable for our guardians of the community. They can’t screw up when people’s lives are at stake, not now, not in the past, not in the future.

[Note: the officer who shot unarmed USAF veteran Ashli Babbitt at the January 6th Capitol riot will not be charged at all because they couldn’t prove he “meant” to do it. The family plans to sue. – The Epoch Times]
