The Trump administration, and in particular, HUD Secretary Dr Ben Carson, defended a new policy that will result in the eviction of illegals from federal housing. People are throwing a fit, because the policy would evict around 55,000 legal children (read that anchor babies) along with their illegal parents.
The proposal to exclude illegals from public housing is at the tip of the problem. Illegal immigrants have always been excluded from public housing, but it only required one legal household member to be eligible. The policy is about to be changed.
The Daily Caller reported,
“While illegal immigrants are already barred from receiving federal housing subsidies, families of mixed-immigration status can score these benefits as long as one of the members was born in the U.S. or is the spouse of a citizen — providing a “loophole” for many illegals. The White House’s proposal calls for every member of a household to be of “eligible immigration status” in order to qualify.”
Hence Democrats opposing the idea. On Tuesday, HUD Secretary Ben Carson testified that ‘we need to take care of our own first.’
“It seems only logical that tax-paying American citizens should be taken care of first. It’s not that we’re cruel, mean-hearted. It’s that we are logical. This is common sense. You take care of your own first.” Ben Carson
The waiting lists for subsidized public housing can stretch into years, because illegals are getting the benefit first. The new policy states that ineligible residents have up to 18 months to remove themselves. Not that people like Maxine Waters or other Dems wanted to hear it. Waters called it a cruel proposal.
“The Trump Administration’s proposal puts mixed-status families at risk of being evicted, separated, and left homeless.” Maxine Waters
OK, instead of complaining, where is their proposal to help the poor in America instead of those who are here illegally? They don’t have one. They want illegals here to the exclusion of citizens. They spend all of their time trying to rid themselves of the President instead of working for America.
“Congress has a responsibility for making the laws that govern this, and they have the ability to change that. If in fact you want to explain to the American citizens who have been on the wait list for several years … why we should continue to support families who are not here legally, I would be happy to join you in explaining that.” Ben Carson
