Dashcam video released of attempted murder of Florida Deputy
An Indian River County, Florida Deputy was punched in the face and shot after pulling over a man who didn’t have a tag on his moped at around 03:20 a.m. Friday morning.
Clear murder attempt
The dashcam video of the incident is extremely clear- Andrew Coffee only briefly complied with Deputy Chris Lester,26. He then sucker punched the officer in the face, pulled a gun from his waistband, stood over him and shot him. Fortunately he was a lousy shot and Lester was able to return fire in the ensuing gunfight and foot chase.
Lester’s dashcam camera captured the deputy requesting Coffee, who has a long, violent criminal record, to put his hand on the hood of his patrol car multiple times after warning him: “Don’t go reaching for anything.” In the video, Coffee briefly puts his hands on the hood, but then removes them and repeatedly asks, “what’s the problem.”
Coffee then punched the officer without warning. After an exchange of gunfire, Lester did attempt to chase him on foot, in spite of his injury. Deputies with a K9 unit later discovered Coffee hiding in a stack of crates at a nearby fruit packing company.
Wounded, but ok
Deputy Lester was shot in the leg and released from the hospital on Friday evening. He has been with the Indian County Sheriff’s Office only since July of 2014. He is reportedly engaged to be married.
Coffee, on the other hand was shot in the torso and leg and underwent surgery- he is listed in stable condition.
Andrew Coffee is a thug, plain and simple. He was released from prison in 2014 from charges of attempted murder with a firearm. He was arrested on Dec 3, 2015 on drug charges. He has 11 felony arrests, 4 convictions, as well as 5 misdemeanor arrests and 3 convictions.
