Founded in 2012, Dark Storm Industries developed the DSI line of firearms to meet the ever-changing regulatory environment in states like California, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and Maryland. They have since expanded their lineup by offering several different standard AR style rifles to the rest of the country in an assortment of calibers ranging from 9mm up to .308 Winchester. This year, Dark Storm Industries moves the marker once again by introducing the Variant 1.
The Variant 1
The V1 is chambered in 5.56 NATO and is built on a precision machined 7075 T-6 billet receiver set. The additional tooling required for such a beautiful design, naturally reduces its overall weight, making it a well-balanced foundation for this firearm. Keeping the shooter in mind, the lightweight design and tight tolerances appeal to the novice and expert alike. The Variant 1 is compatible with all mil-spec AR-15 style parts and is designed to be out-of-the-box ready and reliable for both competition and combat.
The custom Tungsten Cerakote finish is subtle, yet eye-catching. The V1 upper receiver has an optic-ready picatinny rail, while the lower receiver has an integrated and enlarged trigger guard and a flare cut magazine well. All of the roll pins have been removed and replaced with threaded set screws for easy assembly and disassembly.
The Variant 1 features ambidextrous controls, including both a DSI ambidextrous safety selector switch and DSI charging handle. It sports a threaded nitride DSI barrel and DSI’s competition compensator, an ultralight, free floating M-Lok forearm, a Magpul CTR Stock and a Hogue over molded rubber pistol grip, which offers all the comfort of a rubber over molding, but with the durability of a fiberglass core.
The no-slip grip with palm swells and finger grooves allow the user to have a comfortable, but positive, grip in any environmental condition.
MSRP for the Variant 1 is $1695.00.
