Clinton, MO – Three Officers Shot, One of Them Fatal

Officers responded to a 911 call at around 9:20 p.m. Central Time in Clinton, MO on Tuesday night. A woman could be heard screaming in the background of the call. Officers responded, and attempted to enter the home to assist the woman. Shortly after their arrival, gunfire erupted from inside the home, killing one officer and wounding two others.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the residence.

Fox4KC reported,

Shortly after Bates County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene with their CERT team, they went in and got the officer who was still in the house, pulled him out so they could treat him. They then regrouped so they could go back into the house.

The shooter remained inside the home while a SWAT Team formed a plan to enter. Around 12:10 a.m., the SWAT Team went inside and found the shooter dead. It is unclear if the shooter took their own life or they were killed when officers shot back.

 Officer Down

The officer who succumbed to his injuries was identified as Christopher Ryan Morton, 30. A veteran of the Army National Guard, he had been honored in 2014 for his military service by the Kansas City Royals. He had returned to Missouri from Afghanistan and presented the team with a flag that flew over his base there.

He had been with the Clinton Police Department since 2015. The names of the other two officers have not been released.
