Just getting to hear how much he was able to help people and make a positive impact in their life just truly made a profound impact on me.Carlos Herrera to KLKN-TV
Carlos spent 4 years in the Marine Corps. He stated that many Marines have joined law enforcement after their service.
On August 26, 2020, Investigator Herrera was helping serve an arrest warrant for a suspect involved in a homicide. As officers surrounded the house at North 33rd and Vine Streets, the suspect and an accomplice fled from the residence through a window. The suspect fired multiple times at officers. He was captured a short distance away, about an hour later. One of the suspect’s bullets struck Investigator Herrera in the chest. For 12 days, Investigator Herrera courageously fought for his life until succumbing to his injuries on September 7, 2020. Investigator Herrera was 50 years old and faithfully served the Lincoln Police Department for 23 years. He was an immensely talented and highly decorated investigator, known for his kind, compassionate and empathetic personality. He is survived by his wife, Carrie, and four children.Lincoln Police Department
Carlos feels that the support from his family has been pivotal in his decision to follow his father’s legacy.
Carlos’s proud mother, Carrie Herrera, said it would be a “pretty good deal” if her son could follow in her late husband’s footsteps. The Herreras have regular meals together, keeping Mario’s memory alive by sharing stories from the family archives.
Besides the support of his mom, three sisters, and his fiancée, Tasha Bredvick, Carlos has made a number of lasting friendships through the Academy. But perhaps most poignantly of all, he feels his studies have helped with the grieving process, and that his father has been beside him every step of the way.
“My dad just motivates me and keeps me going, even when stuff gets rough,” he reflected. He keeps me going and keeps pushing me forward to do my best every day.”The Epoch Times
Carlos wants to become a Narcotics officer at some point, and hopes to be able to help people. Semper Fi, Carlos and be safe out there.
