Baby Formula Shortage; Are Shelves at Illegal Migrant Centers Full and Grocery Stores Empty?

Kat Cammack (R-FL), a Congresswoman from Florida tweeted a photo that appears to show full shelves of baby formula at the Ursula Processing Center for illegal migrants at border, while a serious baby formula shortage exists elsewhere in the United States. Is there a favoritism situation here?

The shortage is real, however. Abbott Nutrition, one of the main companies that produce baby formula, had to recall much of their product, which contributed to the shortage. They have promised to ramp up production as soon as their product is given approval after the recall, but told the media that it would be 6-8 weeks after startup before it would show up on the shelves. The FDA has allowed certain other infant products to be produced at the affected plant in Michigan, but not the baby formula.

“We literally are struggling to find baby formula around the country,” Cammack said in a Facebook Live stream Wednesday. “Moms are struggling, going from store to store to store and then the stores are actually capping the amount of baby formula that they will sell them, but and this got sent to me by a Border Patrol agent this morning and said, ‘This is disgusting. You will not believe this. They’re receiving pallets, and more pallets of baby formula at the border.’”

She added: “He has been a border patrol agent for 30 years and he has never seen anything quite like this. He is a grandfather and he is saying that his own children can’t get baby formula.”

Cammack’s office told the New York Post that while the agent did not say how often the processing center receives shipments, that the shipments pictured in the images the congresswoman shared “were just a few” of what was delivered on Wednesday morning.

So the question remains: is the Biden administration shipping pallets of the formula to the detention centers on the border instead of working to help American mothers and their babies? The FDA claims to be working around the clock to find solutions. Experts warn parents not use substitutes, as those may not have the required nutrients to help their children. A breast milk bank may assist them.

“This issue has been compounded by supply chain challenges, product recalls and historic inflation. The category started to see stocking challenges beginning in July 2021, and the situation has continued to worsen into 2022.”

CEO of Datasembly Ben Reich said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Approximatly 100 Republican lawmakers sent a letter to the Biden administration, asking him to do something about the nationwide baby formula shortage. It is asking the FDA that already oversees the industry to make attempts to make the baby formula more widely available.
