St Charles, Missouri: An armed customer with a concealed carry permit saved the life of a convenience store clerk who was being held at knifepoint Saturday morning. The suspect, 26-year-old Lance Bush, was found dead at the scene. He violated the biggest rule of all: never bring a knife to a gun fight.

“He grabbed a backpack and ran inside, looking for I guess the clerk. I saw him grab her and drag her to the front to the counter, something wasn’t right when I saw that, so me being concealed carry, I had my gun on me and I just waited. I walked up to the door and I saw him with a knife to her throat. She was emptying out the cash register and I took a step in and peeked my head in to ask if everything was okay. I couldn’t see his face but he was saying yes, but I could see her face she was saying no, she was scared.

I pulled my gun up and I asked him are you sure everything’s okay and that’s when the suspect said ‘no it’s not okay, but I got something for you and he grabbed his bag, ran from around the counter and started running towards me and that’s when I fired shots.

Four bullets later, the guy who brought a knife to a gunfight was transported to the hospital where he died.

Lance M. Bush, St Charles Police mugshot.

Lance Bush is suspected of two other robberies earlier that morning. The first one at “On The Run” Store a few blocks away: the suspect held that clerk at knifepoint, forcing her to open the cash register. Then he shoved her to the ground and dragged her to the back room and demanded she show him the safe. After learning she had no way to open the safe, he dragged her back out front to another cash register. Then he left in a black SUV. The clerk had slits on her wrists and bruises from the encounter.

He suspect them went to a Philipps 66 station and smashed the door for entry. Six minutes later, he arrived at the Quik Trip Convenience Store, which turned out to be his last stop. The black SUV turned out to be stolen from nearby Maryland Heights.

Every time you second guess if you have to take a life, but you also have to think was it for the greater good and my answer is yes…Taking somebody’s life is not an everyday thing, neither is saving someone’s life.
