Update: under separate article

There are 14 reportedly killed and 14 wounded in an active shooting situation that started at close to 10:59 a.m. this morning in San Bernardino at the Inland Regional Center.

Hundreds of people, many of whom were county employees, were at the facility at the time of the incident for a County Christmas Party and Award Ceremony. The suspects are still at large.

At 12:40 p.m. CBS reported,

Witnesses told police investigating the San Bernardino, California, shooting that they saw three men with long rifles, a law enforcement source said. The three men got into a black SUV and exited the parking lot, the source said, citing the witnesses. After a SWAT team cleared the building where the shooting happened, a sheriff’s bomb squad found a suspicious package on the second floor, the source said. An explosive ordnance disposal team determined it is “not normal” and they are going to handle it by robot, the source said.

Suspects still at large

Three white males dressed in military gear entered the building shortly before 11 a.m. and began shooting in a conference room area. Witnesses were requested not to talk with the media. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office was asking for tips from the public.

ATF and FBI are on scene. Nearly every law enforcement agency responded to the scene.

A black SUV, possibly a black Yukon, containing 3 people left the scene immediately after the incident. SWAT teams were already in the area for a training exercise so were able to respond quickly.  Police are actively searching for the suspects. An abandoned Yukon was found in the 1800 blk of South Business Center Drive, and law enforcement was on the way to process the vehicle.

Victims

According to Police Chief Jarrod Burguan 14 of them were killed, and possibly 14 wounded, though because these are initial reports those numbers will likely change. Loma Linda is the only Level 1 trauma center in the area, and they have received 4 adult patients, and are on standby for 3 more. They have increased security and have not allowed any people near the emergency entrance.

Building search, don’t talk to media

The building was evacuated and police went through the building room by room. Employees were going through a roll call to see who was all right and who might still be missing.

People are being told strictly not to  talk to the media. An emergency county meeting was cancelled at the last minute as the members were evacuated from the building. There were some floors of that building placed on lockdown, and no one is speaking with media as to why.

Employees- about 600 of them – are being taken to an “undisclosed location.”

All schools in San Bernardino City are on lockdown at this time.

1 Step from Martial Law – Coordinated attack

One news reported stated that this situation was “1 step from martial law.” This was a coordinated, well planned attack. It was not random, nor does it feel like “workplace violence,” or of some whacked out mentally ill person. Whoever did this had a plan and executed that plan perfectly. They were in and out before law enforcement arrived, in spite of the fact that the SWAT training nearby got the police there quickly.
