The Littoral ship USS Milwaukee had a 100% vaccination rate among its crew. But now it is moored in Guantanamo Bay on its way to South America because of a Covid outbreak aboard. The Navy declined to say how many of the personnel are sidelined by the outbreak.
Story continues below:
A “portion” of the ship’s crew tested positive for the virus, and none of them have required hospitalization, according to the Navy. The specific variant of Covid “has not been determined,” although the mild symptoms may indicate the Omicron variant. Omicron has become the dominant variant in the United States. The ship had a scheduled stop at Guantanamo Bay, and there it remains until the outbreak is over.

The crew is 100% immunized and all COVID-19 positive Sailors are isolated on board and away from other crew members. A portion of those infected have exhibited mild symptoms. The vaccine continues to demonstrate effectiveness against serious illness.US Navy press release
The USS Milwaukee recently participated in an exercise with the Navy’s 4th Fleet (in the US Southern Command) – specifically the USS Billings, and USS Sioux City. It had been deployed for conducting Drug interdiction missions in the Caribbean Sea, according to Stripes. The Navy states that “aggressive” mitigation strategies have been enacted, including contact tracing and testing.
